Wind farms in our country aren't springing up like mushrooms after the rain, yet they are becoming increasingly common. And it's no wonder, as their development brings a wide range of benefits. As many as several large and small projects are coming to fruition in 2026 alone, which are slowly changing the face of Polish energy. In this article, we focus mainly on onshore wind farms, although it's worth noting that offshore ones are also being developed here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The beginning of 2026 is marked by projects from renewable energy auctions and those unlocked by new regulations. What's this all about? At the start of this year, a draft amendment to the RES Act was submitted, aiming to streamline procedures in onshore wind energy.<\/strong>. And although there was some liberalisation in 2023, the entire investment process still takes an average of up to 7 years. The European Union looks unfavourably on this \u2013 according to directive 2023\/2413, it should take less than 2 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is worth highlighting that in the first month of this year alone, two new wind farms were commissioned in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship \u2013 in Jastrowo and Okonek. Furthermore, Poland is currently one of the most dynamically developing markets in the European Union in terms of the number of turbines being installed. But where will work commence in 2026? Below, we list specific municipalities and towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first onshore wind farm worth mentioning will be built in the Miejska G\u00f3rka municipality, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. <\/strong>In terms of size, it will be the second largest in Poland. It is known that it will be built by the company Tauron and will encompass a total of 53 turbines with a combined capacity of 190.8 MW. Their height is set to be 134 m, and the capacity of each one \u2013 3.6 MW. When the farm is commissioned, it will form an important element of the energy mix. Let's also add that it is being built on flat terrain, which in turn enables efficient energy production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n New farms will also be built in the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Voivodeship \u2013 we are talking about Sieradz and Nowa Brze\u017anica. Regarding the first city, 8 turbines are involved, with 2 having a capacity of 2 MW and the remaining 6 having a capacity of 3.3 MW.<\/strong> This will enable nearly 22,000 households to be powered by green energy. It is worth noting that this is the most productive wind farm in Tauron's portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nine wind turbines with a total capacity of 19.6 MW will be built in Nowa Brze\u017anica.<\/strong> Energy from this source will reach 19,000 households. In this town, the company Tauron is also responsible for the construction of the entire investment, and it is keen to achieve climate neutrality by 2040.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, it is not only Polish companies that are overseeing the construction of onshore wind farms. Danish Eurowind Energy has commenced work in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the municipality of Miros\u0142awiec.<\/strong>. The company aims to expand its project portfolio and construct a wind farm, within which 4 Vestas turbines will be erected \u2013 their total capacity will be around 14 MW. It is also said that the operational period in this case will be 25 years. At the same time, it is planned to supply energy to around 10,000 households annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Work on wind farms will continue in 2026, including in Nowogr\u00f3dek Pomorski, near the aforementioned Miros\u0142awiec \u2013 there, 13 Vestas turbines with a total capacity of 28.6 MW are to be installed. The farm is planned to be commissioned in the early months of 2027, and it will cover the energy needs of 17,000 households. Thanks to it, the commune is expected to receive as much as PLN 1.5 million annually. It is worth mentioning that preparations began in this case at the end of 2025, but it was in that same year that they really got underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The aforementioned company, Eurowind Energy, also planned to erect 26 wind turbines in Opole Province, specifically in the municipality of Cisek. The residents decided to conduct a survey, the results of which clearly indicated that there was no agreement for the investment to proceed.<\/strong> The councillors then rejected the idea of building it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interestingly, wind farms were also supposed to be built on State Forests land.<\/strong> \u2013 forests such as Nowa S\u00f3l, S\u0142awa \u015al\u0105ska and Skwierzyna were involved. As it turns out, the Supreme Audit Office found that this project is illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are you wondering how many wind turbines and wind farms are already in Poland? According to data from 2024, there are over 1440<\/strong>. With regard to the total capacity of wind power plants in our country, it stands at 11 GW (this information is from November 2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which companies supplied turbines in Poland? On the one hand, there is growing interest from major players in wind farms, and on the other, there is no shortage of disputes about them.
